Countdown To when Douglas comes home!

Missionary moment

This is a little late, but I am catching up, so here goes.
Christmas day I talked to Douglas! Of course the first thing he says to me is "Do you have a boyfriend? Don't kiss any boys."
He also informed me (keeping in mind he's around the world in South Africa) that I am in a church video, who knew? It's called Council to youth it's on the church website. Apparently they took the picture out of January's New Era and stuck it in there, so yeah. It was a very random conversation, but I miss him! He gets home October second! Counting the days!

Countdown: 278 Days!
Once I figure out how to set up a countdown timer :)

Home for the Holidays

This will be the best Christmas break ever. Here is why.
  • I get to work at Firehouse, the best job ever
  • Aced all my finals, no more stressing about my grades, PASSED MATH!!!
  • Got through my very first jury, played my songs perfectly, and got lots of positive feedback from the professors
  • In 3 weeks I get to go back to warm weather (snow is amazing for Christmas and New Years, other than that, I like warm weather for the most part)
  • Friends and family!
  • I get to anticipate my awesome schedule for next semester, filled with music classes, the loves of my life
  • Sleepovers :)
  • Playing with my roommates while not seeing each other ever day...
  • I get to drive!
  • Lights at temple square
  • Joey! My little shadow and my baby
  • Staying up until 2 am blogging not worrying about my 8:00 class in the morning...(guilty)
  • And there is much, much more!
This is my first time actually "Coming home" for the holidays. A few things I have learned. It really doesn't feel like Christmas until there is snow on the ground and a Christmas tree in the house. Don't I repeat DO NOT save your Christmas shopping until the last minute. As in 2 days before. As in don't pull a Katie. HoW iS a CoLlEgE sTuDeNt SuPpOsEd To PaY fOr AlL tHeSe ChRiStMaS pReSeNtS?!?!?

This was such a wonderful day! So, previously I wanted hot cocoa, I got something even better! ok so you bite off the ends and sip hot cocoa through it. The inside chocolate melts leaving you with a gooey chocolatey amazing mess! what do we call this ooey goey mess? Tim tam slams. too delicious to even describe. Monopoly...board game? meh. Monopoly DEAL?! Funnest most addicting game ever! It's monopoly, only a card game...haha obviously. but it goes way faster and it is way way more fun! So. Moral of the story? The perfect night = monopoly deal and tim tam slams!

P.S. You can buy tim tams at your local Target
P.P.S. While you're picking up your tim tams, go to the back of the store and pick up monopoly deal!

Lazy day

Today is a lazy day. It's one of those days where I just want to sit by the fire with a warm cup of hot cocoa. Mmmmm, sounds good to me! I mean I don't actually have a fireplace, and I have to go to class in less than an hour, but I can still have hot cocoa and wrap up in a cozy blanket and now I have something to look forward to for later! It is finally cold here, and although I have been very lucky when it comes to the weather, I'm going to complain anyway. FREEZING! A chill is in the air, winter's on the way. I'm going to enjoy my lazy day before finals hit, you should too.

To Raina

Raina dear has fallen ill

Take her to the ER! you know the drill!!

The volunteer was so dumb

I wanted to shoot her in the bum.

"any more symptoms?" she asked causally

"yes, I can't breathe" Said Raina she,

"Oh ok, please have a seat,

a doctor should come on down to meet." (you)

She went back there, and got some tests,

in the meantime KaCee and I found that people watching is the best.

A girl with her face torn apart from her dog,

it was really bloody, and oh so wrong.

We did a crossword, and fell in love with an old man,

and KaCee went back to hold Raina's hand.

They came out after time and told me the news,

"it may or may not be an ulcer, We'll let you choose"

Curses

Yes, to some, this probably isn't funny. But this is a divine game and is super funny to play and even funnier to watch ourselves look like idiots afterward!
Roommates are fun!

Things I've Learned about college as of 9/17/09

  1. It is possible to live off of pudding and PB&J.
  2. People are competitive!
  3. Only 3 to 5 hours of class time every day!
  4. Double that, and that's the homework load
  5. If you practice, you really will get better! I'm living proof
  6. Studying is hard, yet effective
  7. you wouldn't BELIEVE how much toilet paper four girls can go through
  8. Roommates are fun to chill with!
  9. I think I've seen more movies in the past 4 weeks than I have my entire life!
  10. All of a sudden everyone that goes here that is from Viewmont acts like I'm their best friend, even if I didn't talk to them once back then...!
  11. More old people go to college than you would think, and lots of them are awesome!
  12. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are my favorite classes!
  13. There is such thing as a true crazy musician, I've seen about 5 or 6,
  14. Raintree internet stinks.
  15. Reading scriptures before homework=easier to concentrate!
  16. Just because you live in St. George doesn't make you tan :(
  17. Study groups are effective AND fun, if you do it with the right people
  18. I feel like a missionary waiting for the mail every day....
  19. Going home messes with my mind, because you're actually going on vacation. to your own house. it's weird
  20. Sacrament meeting is sure quiet without all those screaming kids....
(PS Raina And KaCee are on photo booth that's why their faces look like...that ) :D

Rachel's Birthday Poem

Rachel: This is in honor of your birthday!!!! Happy Birthday
Rachel dear you're getting old
You're in Bountiful where it's getting cold.
I'm in St. George so far away
now we never ever have time to play!!
It's your birthday...so shout for joy
you're almost old enough to actually date a boy!
this poem is lame,
I know it's true,
so the only thing left to say is...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!

I was sitting in orchestra today, thinking about all these musicians, and how the music industry is so incredibly competitive...and i got to wondering; what is it that makes us want to be so much better than everyone else in our section? This goes for anything in general, not just a violinist. Why can't we all just accept that we're all talented? Maybe someone else has a better tone quality, or more money, but who really cares? God made us who we are, and he gave us the talents we have. He also expects us to respect others who have our same talent. Maybe it's just a matter of self esteem. But when all is said and done, we're all unique individuals who our Heavenly Father loves, and if my stand partner goes off to become a world famous musician, and I a teacher in some small high school, that does not make me any less of a performer, a musician, a person. In the end we're judged by how good we are, not how famous we get. So please, everyone. Respect anyone and everyone as a person, no one cares if you're better. I am here to gain an education for ME, I didn't come to college to see if I could beat out every single person trying for the same thing I am. Of course this does not mean I am not going to try to work my hardest, but I am not here to become better than everyone. As long as I try my best, practice my hardest, and believe in myself, when I become a teacher and you become a rock star, I've still made it as far in life as you have because I got to where I want to be. I am just amazed at what I've heard people saying about other people going into the same fields here at college, rude, demeaning degrading things. Come on guys, the world needs more than one nurse, more than one singer, more than one violinist, more than one school teacher, and remember, there's always going to be someone that is a little higher on the totem pole than you.
So next time you're going to criticize someone or talk lowly of them, especially if they're studying in the same field as you, just remember that it really doesn't matter. You're here to develop YOURSELF, not to be better than everyone else; and remember that We are all equal!

Life on my own

So. Life on my own is pretty interesting! Every day I wake up in this new place, eat whatever I want, do whatever I want to do...I still feel like I should tell someone whenever I'm going to go somewhere, but in reality no one around really cares. I have already made some good friends! There's Matt, Mike, the boys from apartment 28 and of course the one who I have spent pretty much all of my time with...Raina. One of my roommates. Talk about an adorable girl! I hope we become better friends then we already have in the past 3 days :) I'm sure we will too!
Classes start in a few days, Monday to be exact, I'm pretty excited for that I guess, we'll see how it goes with all these music classes I'm taking? You never know, maybe it's not for me, we'll see. If not, I've only taken up one semester and even if it doesn't work out I'll have no regrets because I still love music and will most likely love the classes I'm taking individually, whether I pursue music or not.
So far the highlight is my adorable scooter! It's pink, retro, and just screams Katie ! I absolutely adore it and it's perfect to cruise around on in a warm place like St. George! Speaking of St George...talk about PARADISE!!! I absolutely love this place! I mean yes I miss my friends and family but how can you not love the warm, the beautiful scenery, and not to mention the palm trees everywhere! Like really, what's not to love? Man everyone I've met so far is friendly! I've felt like I've know my roommate and those 2 boys longer than 3 days! We've all watched movies together pretty much every night, and Raina got me hooked on the show "Lost" ! We've been dying for KaCee to bring the next season down :D
KaCee is moving in tomorrow! I'm really excited to get to know her better! I mean we've known each other for as long as I can remember but not once have we just hung out without it being a BBQ our parents planned for both families and this is going to be a really good experience! Anyway...great weather, good friends and total freedom....college=so far, so good!

Blogging...

In order to continue to "keep up" with family and friends whom I am far away from, I decided to give "blogging" a try! Why not? It's better than writing in a journal, because lets face it, in this day and age we just love the feeling of keyboard buttons being pressed under our fingertips way better than writing on paper, and getting that gray pencil smudge on the side of our hand. So. We'll see how this goes. But so far so good, this really is way better than writing by hand. Anyway, I'll be shocked if anyone reads this...but it will give me something to do in my spare time, so what the heck! Enjoy!
